Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as nail technicians to provide manicure and pedicare services, including the application of nail art, and acrylic and gel nail enhancements.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and customer service skills where discretion and judgement are required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes client consultation on nail care products and services. Nail technicians may also be self-employed and responsible for managing their own nail station.

Work is typically conducted in nail and beauty salons. The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements for this qualification; however, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of course commencement
  • Participate in a pre-enrolment review, including an initial skills assessment, to determine suitability for the course
  • Provide information on previous education, training, and relevant work or life experience as part of the review
  • Demonstrate that the course aligns with their learning goals and needs
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) assessment prior to enrolment
  • Be willing to undertake support services if identified during the review process
  • Have the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or credit transfer where applicable
  • Have access to a laptop or computer with a Windows operating system and Microsoft Word (or similar software) to participate in training, complete assessments, and undertake self-study

The LLND assessment is conducted using the LLN Robot platform, which generates reports, training recommendations, and learner profiles based on ACSF benchmarks.

Where required, the institute will provide access to appropriately configured computers/laptops on campus to support learners in completing their studies.

  • Practical workshops and simulated projects
  • Workplace-style assessments
  • Written tasks and knowledge questions
  • Trainer observations and demonstrations
